Saute onion in 2 TBLS butter and set aside.
In large pot, melt remaining 6 TBLS butter.
Slowly whisk in four until smooth and cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
Add chicken broth and whisk until smooth.
Whisk in half and half and all spices.
Cook on medium until thick.
Add chicken, beans, onions, and cheese.
Heat about 20 minutes.
