Gather Box Together
Have you ever had a time when you thought maybe God was telling you to do something and over and over you kept hearing and bumping into the same message? As I thought about Gather Box, the thing I kept bumping into was the story of the four friends who brought their paralytic friend to Jesus to be healed. Mark 2:1-12 This story in Mark illustrates what I visualize for Gather Box. Let me explain.
In this account of Jesus’ life, Jesus was in a home teaching and doing ministry. The word was out that he was there and the house was packed. Some men heard that Jesus would be there and knew he was the solution to their friend’s problem. He was paralyzed. When the men arrived, carrying their friend, they faced a challenge. With people spilling out of the house, they couldn’t make their way in. Relentless, they climbed to the roof of the house and worked together to tear the roof off and lower their friend into the room with Jesus. These men would stop at nothing to get to Jesus because they believed he alone could heal and change their friend.
It is true, Jesus did heal their friend physically, but even more, Jesus healed his heart. Jesus told the man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Jesus knew that the greatest need this man had was not to walk, but to have abundant and eternal life. His new abilities would serve him well for the few years he had left on the earth, but even greater, that day his eternity was changed.
What does this have to do with Gather Box? I see these boxes as the mat in the story. The box is just a tool to get us started as we bring our friends to Jesus. We believe that Jesus has the power to change our friends from the inside out and we will stop at nothing to get them into the house where he is. Where is he? Jesus is wherever born again believers are. So, sister, if you are a follower of Christ, he is in YOUR house. Your house is a place where healing can take place and lives can be changed. Together with the Gather Box team, we can work to bring ladies into the room to meet Jesus. Together with other believing friends of yours, you can work and stop at nothing to get ladies into your home to meet him.
Let us not wait for our friends to happen upon a church service or event. Let us be intentional and get these ladies into the house where Jesus is. I cannot wait to see how God will honor your willingness and obedience to tear off the roof!
